My solution, albeit a year ago, was to wipe, at that time Vista, re-partition the drive (a laptop) install XP sp2 and then VSC loaded and worked okay with my sequencers. I use VSC too and SY-XG100 at home to give me a rough idea whether SMFs will sound OK. How do I know? I use an SC8850 myself combined with a pair of Yamaha MU1000s (with PLG card synths). Those things are 22k sample rate and will cause a glitch every time Windows tries to make a noise.Īctually I think I know exactly where you're coming from.Ī gigging musician who has a stage setup (SC8850+laptop) and just wants to be able to edit his MIDI files at home so that they can be transferred straight to the stage rig without pratting about changing patches etc. However, if you must use just one for both make sure Windows sounds are set to "no sounds". That's why it's a good idea to have a different sound card for Sonar. That way it gets included with any export (mixdown).Īlso, Sonar doesn't use the I/O settings in Windows either it goes directly to the driver. The "sound" will come out that channel to the main bus in Sonar. It will show up in synth rack, as a track in track view and in the console view. So you need to get your head around that fact, any software synth you want to send a MIDI track to has to be inserted into the project. The hardware ports will still be there on the pull down list but you will also see the TTS-1 as a new virtual MIDI port.īy the way, Sonar doesn't use any of the synths defined in the Windows control panel. Then it will show up on the output I/O pull down list on the MIDI track. Note: You won't see the output selection on the MIDI tracks till you add the TTS-1 to the project.

If you can run Windows 7 at all you have enough power LOL ! If 16 channels is not enough just add another instance, you can have more then one ! Any modern computer can run a silly number of those things, you should have no problems with CPU usage. All you need to do is add that to your project and set your midi tracks output to it. The good news is Sonar comes with a sound canvas virtual sound module called the TTS-1. I downloaded Loop B and installed and it shows up in my midi devices both input and output but when I play the files I hear nothing.

I have downloaded Sonar 8 and it appears alot more complicated than my good old pro 8 and have not been able to download any kind of virtual controller that will play the midi files through my computer speakers like the VSC did so effortlessly. I am hoping that someone out there has a remedy. Without a the VSC I would have to drag my rack up the stairs from my van and hook everything up like on stage.I am more inclined to become a pimp or janitor before I tackle that. I write and edit my midi files in Cakewalk Pro 8 and use a Roland SC-8850 for live performance and the VSC on my home computer for listening and editing.

I have had to purchase a new computer with Windows 7 and Pro 8 doesn't work, more importantly neither does VSC with has been a can't-do-without program.

My last upgrade was to Cakewalk PRO 8 and have never found a reason to switch until now unfortunately.
